“The trick is to age honestly and gracefully and make it look great so that everyone looks forward to it.” – Emma Thompson
Introduction:
Menopause brings us significant hormonal fluctuations, which directly affect the skin. The decrease in oestrogen levels leads to reduced collagen and moisture, making the skin more vulnerable to dryness, fine lines, and increased sensitivity.
In this post, I’m going to show you step by step how to easily look after your skin during the menopause transition with four easy to implement tips
After going through this guide, you will be able to maintain a simple, manageable skin routine.

Many women find staying hydrated during the menopause transition difficult for the simple reason that they feel drinking more will result in more frequent toilet trips.
You should stay sufficiently hydrated is crucial so that you can maintain overall good health and skin vitality.
Set the goal to consume as near to two litres of water a day, this is important too because it maintains your inner systems, reduces lethargy and aids your digestive processes, thereby maintaining a healthier skin.
And ultimately, if you are feeling thirsty you are probably already dehydrated.
To make this step go as smoothly as possible, make sure you are aware of how much you are drinking by applying the following tips:
Set a goal for how much you need to drink
Use your journal to monitor your drinking habits
Adapt and change to see the outcomes
Another critical step to radiant menopausal skin is to adapt and adjust your skin care routines accordingly. This step is important because it helps you prevent any further possible damage to your skin.
Before I realised how important this step was, I made some rookie mistakes that stopped me from making simple changes to my skin care routine.
We all have that favoured brand or product that we have used ‘forever’. As our skins needs change that most favoured product may not be the best for us as of now.
Once I took stock of the products I was using, I was able to find and adapt a simple routine more suitable for my changing skin
When you really nail this step, you’ll have a much better idea of where to focus to a more radiant and glowing skin.
The next step is to check the ingredients in your skin care products.
Make sure that the products you are using contain ingredients that will be beneficial to your skin at this stage.
Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid and antioxidants. These gentle elements can nurture and protect your delicate skin.
If you're inclined toward a natural approach, consider trying products with simpler, organic components. In Mediterranean cultures, using olive oil has been a long-standing tradition for skincare.
A great thing about finding your own skin care routine is that there are many different ways you can go about it. So you can try a few strategies and see what works best for you.
The skin is not just the surface of our body but it is the largest organ in our body. As all of our organs it requires nourishment and a balanced diet to be able to work at its most optimum.
Opting for a balanced diet that includes omega-3 and antioxidants will help to maintain and enhance the skin.
Remember that a balanced diet ng hydration go hand in hand to maintain a vibrant supple skin.
Just a few simple changes to the diet, aiming for a Mediterranean style of eating can reap rewards.
A few ways you can approach this:
Include protein in every meal
Cook meals from scratch where possible
Include whole-grains and green leafy veg.
Movement isn’t just about bone density and muscles; it’s about skin health too.
Exercise improves blood circulation, benefiting your skin's appearance and overall wellness.
In fact, total lack of exercise, no matter how fatigued we feel, can exacerbate and increase ageing effects on the whole body. Exercise of some form is imperative once you hit the menopausal rollercoaster.
Make sure to include some form of exercise in your daily routine, even if it’s the housework. Keep moving.
Menopause might also usher in heightened feelings of anxiety and stress.
As we are well aware, stress can play havoc on all of our body systems and our skin can show our outer evidence of this.
Many women overlook the effects that stress and anxiety can have on our outer appearance.
It is therefore important to address the effects that stress and anxiety can play at this turbulent hormonal hormonal stage.
Adopt relaxation techniques to ease stress levels.
Establish a routine that encompasses skincare, nutrition and exercise.
Ok, sounds a bit weird to be so analytical. If your skin is causing you concerns at this time include it in your daily journal.
Notice what your regime is, any alterations and any improvements.
Monitor the result and then you can make adjustments accordingly.

The Cost-of-Living Crisis and What you can do to Thrive
04 April 2022
It’s all over the news and social media, there is a rapidly developing cost of living crisis. For many there already was and has been for some time.
Let’s just make it clear; 100% of women will go through perimenopause and on into menopause. 99% of women going through ‘The Change’ will experience some symptoms that can affect daily life to some degree.
Like most of us I didn’t always have a flexible work regime and found myself working hours for a fixed income that didn’t quite meet the lifestyle I wanted to lead.
In fact, it was not all that long ago that I had to totally reassess what I was doing and where I wanted to be.
