The menopause journey doesn’t mean money stress has to win. This phase of life is like a hormonal rollercoaster, and it often takes a toll on your financial stability. Mindfulness practices, like meditation, can help you take back control, ease stress, and even make smarter financial decisions. Let’s dive into how mindfulness and meditation can transform your financial future.
Throughout midlife, many women face unexpected financial challenges. As we know the menopause journey doesn’t just affect your body; it can disrupt your career, relationships, and daily routines. From brain fog to emotional spending, the hormonal shifts can create a cascade of stressors. But it doesn’t have to stay that way.
By integrating mindfulness and meditation into your life, you can:
Reduce stress
Boost focus
Improve decision-making
These benefits are critical during menopause, when your brain is recalibrating after years of relying on oestrogen and the other female hormones to maintain balance. Without these hormones, your mind can feel cluttered and overwhelmed—but mindfulness can help clear the way.
The menopause journey can amplify stress, making it harder to focus. When stress takes over, it’s easy to fall into impulsive habits, like retail therapy or emotional spending. Mindfulness interrupts that cycle, allowing you to pause, breathe, and make more intentional choices.
Here are three ways mindfulness directly impacts your finances:
Mindful Spending: Before you hit “buy now” or toss another item into your shopping cart, pause and ask yourself, “Does this align with my goals?” This simple question can save you hundreds over time.
Emotional Regulation: Tracking your emotions can reveal patterns, like how stress triggers unnecessary purchases. Journaling your feelings alongside your spending habits can help you spot these connections.
Improved Focus: Meditation strengthens your ability to concentrate on long-term financial goals, such as saving for retirement, planning a career pivot or earning more in your business.
Incorporating mindfulness doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Here’s how you can get started:
1. Set Daily Intentions
Each morning, take a moment to set positive intentions for the day. Examples include:
“I am in control of my spending.”
“I am focused and productive at work.”
“I am grateful for my financial progress.”
By repeating affirmations, you reinforce a mindset of abundance and control.
2. Practice Mindful Spending
The next time you’re tempted to splurge, pause. Whether you’re shopping online or in-store, take a deep breath and ask yourself:
“Do I really need this?”
“Does this purchase align with my financial goals?”
“Am I shopping to fill an emotional void?”
If the answer is “no,” walk away—you’ll thank yourself later.
3. Journal Your Habits
A journal is your best friend during menopause. Track your emotions, spending patterns, and daily routines. This self-awareness helps you pinpoint what triggers impulsive decisions and how to adjust your behaviour.
Meditation is a game-changer for midlife women looking to regain control of their finances. Here’s why:
Stress Reduction
Meditation calms your nervous system, reducing cortisol levels and helping you think more clearly. Less stress means fewer impulsive financial decisions.
Enhanced Focus
By meditating regularly, you train your brain to stay present. This improved focus translates to better decision-making in your career and finances.
Clarity of Purpose
Meditation helps you connect with your deeper goals, ensuring your financial choices align with your values.
Starting a meditation practice doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are the basics:
1. Find Your Space
Choose a quiet, comfortable spot where you won’t be interrupted. Whether you sit or lie down, make sure you’re relaxed and grounded.
2. Start Small
Begin with just five minutes a day. Short, consistent sessions are more effective than occasional long ones.
3. Practice Breathing Techniques
Deep breathing is a cornerstone of meditation. Try the 4-4-4 Method:
Inhale for 4 seconds.
Hold for 4 seconds.
Exhale for 4 seconds.
This simple exercise calms your mind and body.
4. Choose a Guided Meditation
If you’re new to meditation, guided sessions can be incredibly helpful. Look for one with a voice that soothes you—this ensures you feel comfortable and at ease.
Meditation isn’t just about relaxation; it’s a powerful tool for visualization. During your sessions, focus on one financial goal. Picture yourself achieving it, whether it’s paying off debt, growing your savings, or landing a promotion. Visualising success reinforces your ability to make it a reality.
Gratitude is a cornerstone of mindfulness. Taking a moment to appreciate where you are and what you have can shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance. Here’s how to incorporate gratitude into your routine:
Morning Gratitude: Write down three things you’re grateful for as you start your day.
Evening Reflection: Reflect on your accomplishments and express gratitude for your progress.
The more you practice gratitude, the more abundance you’ll attract.
Mindfulness and meditation are like muscles—the more you practice, the stronger they become. Start with five minutes a day and gradually build up. Use your newfound clarity to make intentional choices that align with your financial goals.
Remember, the menopause journey brings challenges, but it’s also an opportunity to reimagine your future. By incorporating mindfulness and meditation, you can take control of your finances, career, and overall well-being.

The Cost-of-Living Crisis and What you can do to Thrive
04 April 2022
It’s all over the news and social media, there is a rapidly developing cost of living crisis. For many there already was and has been for some time.

Let’s just make it clear; 100% of women will go through perimenopause and on into menopause. 99% of women going through ‘The Change’ will experience some symptoms that can affect daily life to some degree.

Like most of us I didn’t always have a flexible work regime and found myself working hours for a fixed income that didn’t quite meet the lifestyle I wanted to lead.
In fact, it was not all that long ago that I had to totally reassess what I was doing and where I wanted to be.

As if coping with midlife, erratic hormones and perimenopause was not enough, the children who you have spent the most significant part of your life nurturing and raising are ready to leave home and spread their wings.
